Planetary launch at the Hannover Messe
As many of you reading this will know STM Spa have begun to manufacture their very own range of Planetary gearboxes of which many will be interchangeable with other Planetary gearbox manufacturers.

A few weeks ago STM UK attended Hannover Messe - held every 2 years this is the most important exhibition for our industry throughout the world. STM took this opportunity to officially launch the new range although we have been selling this product for the past year. The focus on the STM stand was on what many consider to be the future of industrial drives which is an emphasis on high efficiency gearboxes and a shift away from the traditional and popular though not so efficient wormbox.
Planetary gearboxes have been around for many years now however with the current climate issues and government drives for reducing our carbon footprint these high efficiency gearboxes have never been more popular. With Planetary boxes losing only 3% efficiency for each gear stage they are right up there with Helical + Bevel although due to the gear arrangement they have the ability to transmit greater torque relative to size and can carry high axial loads.
On our products page you can find information on our Planetary gearboxes although here is some information on the ones from the Messe stand.

This first picture is of a foot mounted Planetary gearbox ref EX2503 PN1 100B5. This is a standard gearbox with an IEC input and output shaft. Please note that the orange colour is for the benefit of the exhibition and red oxide is the standard finish which can then be painted to your specification on request.
The second unit - pictured below - is again of a foot mounted gearbox ref. EXV 802/85L PN1 80B5. On this unit you will see that there is a right angle gearbox on the input which has an internal torque limiter housed within the unit to protect both gearboxes from overloads.

The third and final gearbox of this piece – an EX 803 V13 90B5 - again utilises a standard IEC input although this time the output is fitted with a pinion design. The gearbox will be used in conjunction with a slewing ring on some form of positioning system.

As you will have noticed all the gearboxes featured have IEC inputs to accept an electric motor, also available on these planetary boxes - and many of our other products - are hydraulic inputs so the unit can be driven via a hydraulic motor.
If you have any enquiries for Planetary or any other type of gearbox or motor within our range which include Wormbox, Helical In-line, Bevel Helical, Parallel Shaft Mounted and much more please do not hesitate to contact one of our technical team for more information or just some advise, we’re here to help?
We look forward to speaking with you soon
